Quick filters capture label and value selections from supported pages as you investigate, so you can apply them again as list variable values on a dashboard. Text and interval variables aren’t updated from quick filters.

Where Quick filters capture entries

Observability Platform adds a Quick filters entry when variable or signal data is available on the page, including when you open or change selections on:
  • An alert details page, from the alert’s firing signals
  • A monitor details page, after signal options load and you choose a signal combination
  • An SLO details page that includes signal selection
  • A dashboard that has list variables, when variable values are set
  • A Services page, from the pinned scopes at the top of the page
  • A Logs Explorer page, from the fields and values in your log query
  • A Metrics Explorer page, from equality (=) label matchers in a single enabled PromQL query when the explorer has no formulas
Each entry lists the resource name, captured values, and time. Observability Platform keeps all favorite entries and a limited number of your most recent entries that aren’t favorites.

Use Quick filters on a dashboard

Quick filters apply only to list variables on the dashboard you’re viewing.
  1. Open the dashboard. View a list of all dashboards or select from a list of dashboards in a collection.
  2. In the dashboard variables bar, click the Quick filters dropdown. The dropdown has three tabs:
    • Saved: Your saved views.
    • My recents: Entries in reverse chronological order.
    • My favorites: Entries you marked as a favorite.

Apply recent filters in one click

When a recent entry matches list variables on this dashboard and those values aren’t already applied, a history icon button labeled Apply recent filters appears next to the Quick filters dropdown. Hold the pointer over the button to preview the entry, then click to apply it without opening the dropdown. Observability Platform picks the most recent applicable entry from the My recents tab. The button is disabled when nothing matches this dashboard; hold the pointer over a disabled button for guidance. After you apply from the button, it stays hidden for the rest of the visit to this dashboard.

Apply an entry

To apply a set of variables, click the row. Observability Platform compares the stored keys to the list variable definitions on this dashboard to determine which values to set. For details about how matching works, see Apply quick filters to list variables. A confirmation message displays Applied N variable or Applied N variables, where N is the number of variables applied. If no variables could be applied, an error message displays instead.

Favorite an entry

To mark an entry as a favorite, click the favorite toggle on its row.

View the source page

To open the source page for an entry, hold the pointer over the row and click the menu that appears, then click View source.

Save the current selection

To save the current variable selection as a named saved view, click Save current selection at the bottom of the Quick filters dropdown. For details, see Manage saved views.
